How Ready Are Students For Live Learning Online?
The education field has changed significantly over the last few decades. Traditional classroom-based classes have been replaced by online learning techniques that allow for the flexibility of pre-recorded courses with class meetings held via videoconferencing software that is real-time. However, these online methods aren’t enough for students who prefer the real-time interaction of a face-to-face classroom.
Live learning online is a viable alternative to these other online learning strategies that allows students and instructors to talk in real-time using a videoconferencing program like Zoom. Students can ask questions, resolve confusion and help them gain a better understanding of the material.
Although there are many advantages when it comes to live learning but it can be a challenge for some students to adapt to this type of online learning. This study focuses on student ability to live learn and identifies the primary factors that affect it. The findings reveal that motivation to learn as well as self-directed communication are the main influencers. The researchers also conducted a multi-group analysis and post-hoc tests to assess the gender differences in undergraduate, graduate and sub-degree students. It was discovered that postgraduate students have greater levels of preparedness in the majority of aspects of live education compared to undergraduate and sub-degree students.
To ensure that students are prepared for an Live Session, it is recommended that instructors set out clear expectations of what they must be aware of and do prior to use your time effectively with board portals and after the session. It is essential to provide additional materials, such as summaries and gist quizzes. Also, outline, concept maps, and study guides can be helpful. Additionally, instructors should create exercises that reinforce the lessons that students have learned on their own, for example by discussing, reviewing, arguing and reviewing.
